The Breathing for Two Study is being offered by the MuMH Lab at the University of Arizona in collaboration with the Banner University Medical Center - Tucson OB/GYN department.
Why are we doing this study?
- Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are becoming one of the most common causes for serious health issues for mothers and babies in the United States.
- Right now, there are very few ways to prevent high blood pressure and most treatments are only given after high blood pressure becomes a problem.
- Finding ways to reduce and prevent high blood pressure before it becomes a problem could improve the health of mothers and babies and reduce healthcare costs.
What we are asking?
- Complete guided breathing trainings using a small handheld device
- Measure blood pressure at home
- Answer surveys from your phone
- At NST, provide a urine sample and do a quick blood flow test
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you:
- are 18 years or older
- are pregnant & scheduled for weekly NST visits at Banner Tucson in your third trimester
- speak/read English
- meet some additional criteria based your pregnancy or healthy history
You could earn up to $100 for your contribution.
An Institutional Review Board responsible for human subjects research at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.
